Shiatsu is a form of bodywork with roots in Traditional Chinese Medicine, and literally translates to mean “finger pressureâ€Â.
Shiatsu is traditionally done on a floor mat. The shiatsu therapist uses primarily thumb pressure, but also palm, finger, elbow and knees on specific parts of the body to correct imbalances in energy flow and to promote overall health and well-being.
In relation to the emotions, shiatsu theory believes that prolonged difficult emotional states have a strong effect on the body, and the body’s state of health also either supports or hinders emotional well-being.
